California – From Rick Mattos, President of the California Association of Highway Patrolmen: California Highway Patrol Officer Tom Coleman was killed on Friday, June 11, 2010. Tom was involved in a high-speed pursuit of a violator when his motorcycle collided with a big rig. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Tom was an eight-year veteran of the CHP working out of the San Bernardino Office. He is survived by his wife, Jamie, his 2 ½-year-old son, Ryan, and an 8-month-old daughter, Shaylen.
This comes two days after one of our motorcycle Officers, Phil Ortiz, in West Los Angeles was struck by a car driving on the shoulder. He is in a coma with massive head and neck injuries. The prognosis is not good in his case.
Please keep the families, friends, and fellow members of these brave law enforcement officers in your thoughts.
