Trooper Line-of-Duty Death

The New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association mourns the loss of one of our members, Trooper Jeremy J. VanNostrand, who died from injuries sustained in a multi-vehicle accident this morning in front of the barracks where he was stationed. Trooper VanNostrand, 36, had served as a Trooper for six years.

Tragically, Trooper VanNostrand is the 23rd member of the New York State Police to die in the line of duty in the last decade. He is survived by his wife and 6-year-old daughter.

This has been a difficult year for the Trooper family. On Jan. 2, retired Trooper Michael J. Anson passed away from a 9/11-related illness; on June 9, retired Sgt./SC Charles R. Salaway passed away from a 9/11-related illness; and on July 2, Trooper Nicholas F. Clark was shot and killed in the line of duty by a suicidal man.

“Trooper VanNostrand served the people of the state of New York with pride and professionalism. He made the ultimate sacrifice and he will never be forgotten,” said PBA President Thomas H. Mungeer. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and co-workers of Trooper VanNostrand during this difficult time.”

The PBA, as the labor union, will assist with arrangements for the line-of-duty death funeral, as well as assist Trooper VanNostrand’s family and fellow Troopers with whatever needs arise. The PBA’s charity, the Signal 30 Benefit Fund, is accepting donations on behalf of the family of Trooper VanNostrand. The NYS Troopers PBA Signal 30 Fund is a federally recognized 501 (c)(3) and contributions are tax deductible.

Donations to the Signal 30 Fund can be made by check or credit card. Checks can be made payable to: NYS Troopers Signal 30 Benefit Fund, and mailed to: NYS Troopers PBA Signal 30 Benefit Fund, 120 State St., Albany, NY 12207.
