PBA Mourns Passing of 2 Retirees Due to 9/11-Related Illnesses

After 19 years, the effects of September 11, 2001 are still exacting a toll upon our Members.

Please remember retired Troop A Trooper Joseph J. Mecca Jr. who succumbed to a 9/11-related cancer on December 2, 2020. Retired Trooper Mecca, 62, retired in 2006 after 21 years of service and was last stationed at SP Olean – Interstate patrol. His sacrifice and passing is deemed a line-of-duty death, and rightfully so. Please remember him and his family, which includes retired Lieutenant Sal Mecca, in your thoughts and prayers.

The PBA also remembers retired Troop A Trooper Jennifer M. Czarnecki, who passed away from a 9/11-related illness on December 5, 2020. Retired Trooper Czarnecki, 47, retired on November 3, 2020. Throughout her career she was assigned to Troops A and D and had most recently served in Troop A at SP Boston. Trooper Czarnecki is survived by her husband, mother and brother.
