Gravesite Dedication Ceremony Held in Honor of NYSP Corporal Killed in the Line of Duty in 1923

The PBA participated in a gravesite dedication ceremony held in honor of Corporal Harold C. Mattice, who was the first NYS Trooper to lose his life by gunfire in the line of duty. He was shot and killed on April 28, 1923 while investigating an arson. His gravesite in the Town of Berne had become overgrown and his stone was damaged, missing a corner. Last year, Melissa Hale-Spencer, editor of The Altamont Enterprise & Albany County Post, had taken up the cause to restore his grave and had written an article about it. CplMatticeGraveArticle.pdf Retired member Kevin Kailbourne and the PBA became involved, and ensured that a new grave marker was set in place.
