Man convicted of shooting NYS Trooper in the hand

A Franklin County jury convicted a man on two felony counts for shooting New York State Trooper George Stannard in the hand with a muzzle-loading rifle. Trooper Stannard was attempting to disarm the suicidal man on Aug. 28, 2008 when the rifle went off and severely injured the Trooper’s hand. The man was convicted of second-degree assault and second-degree criminal use of a firearm.

Trooper Stannard underwent extensive medical procedures and has thankfully returned to work.
